Overview

In five days, you can get to the Masai Mara/Lake Nakuru or Amboseli/Tsavo West/Tsavo East. If you are heading down to Tanzania, Amboseli is good choice as you can cross the border after your safari.

5 DAYS LAKE NAKURU – MASAI MARA

DAY 01 NAIROBI – LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast at your hotel, depart Nairobi for Lake Nakuru National Park (2.5 hours / 170 km). En route, you will see wonderful views of the Rift Valley, Mt. Longonot, and go past Lake Naivasha.

In the afternoon, you will do a game drive at Lake Nakuru, which is described as the world's most incredible bird spectacle. You will see thousands of the pink flamingos and many other types of birds. Waterbuck, buffalos, lions, baboons, Rothchild giraffes, and rhinos are commonly seen here.

Dinner and overnight at campsite or lodge inside the park.

You can do an optional hike up Mt. Longonot, which takes 4-5 hours of hiking.

DAY 02 LAKE NAKURU – MASAI MARA

Depart after breakfast for Masai Mara (5 hours / 330 km). Lunch at campsite or hotel. Afternoon game drive in search the black manned lion, elephants, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, and other plains game.

Dinner and overnight at campsite or lodge inside the park.

DAY 03 - MASAI MARA

Full day game drives exploring these vast plains, picnic lunch by the hippo pool and thereafter return to the campsite or lodge for dinner and overnight.

Optional visit to the Masai Villages - about $20/person.

DAY 04 - MASAI MARA

Full day game drives exploring these vast plains, return to the campsite or lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 05 - MASAI MARA

A morning game drive, after breakfast proceed on back to Nairobi with picnic lunch and stop over for panoramic view of the Great Rift Valley to arrive Nairobi by 4:00pm (4-5 hours).

5 DAYS AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK - TSAVO W. PARK

DAY 01: NAIROBI - AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

08:30 Hrs. Depart Nairobi for Amboseli game reserve via Namanga on the Tanzania border. Picnic lunch en route. On arrival, proceed on for an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

DAY 02: AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

Early morning game drive when Mt. Kilimanjaro usually appears from its mantle of clouds, return for breakfast and proceed on for another game drive, lunch followed by a siesta and an afternoon game drive, dinner and overnight at the campsite. [optional visit to the Masai Villages - extra cost]

DAY 03: AMBOSELI N. PARK - TSAVO WEST N. PARK

08:00 Hours, after breakfast depart Amboseli for Tsavo West National Park crossing the now extinct dramatic lava flow at the park boundary, picnic lunch followed by a game drive in this Kenya’s largest park, noted especially for its enormous elephant population. Visit Mzima Springs – an Oasis where hippo and crocodile can be seen. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

DAY 04: TSAVO WEST N. PARK

Breakfast and proceed on a morning game drive. Lunch, dinner and overnight at the campsite.

DAY 05: TSAVO WEST N. PARK - NAIROBI

Early morning game drives, there after break up camp and drive back to Nairobi with picnic en route lunch to arrive by 4.00 p.m. [The safari can end in Mombasa - at an extra cost].

Both campsites are a public utility, no facilities but it is comfortable for 1 or 2 nights. A drop latrine is available but no showers. You can be driven to the nearest lodge for a shower or swim [at an extra cost]
