Press Release: Three Volunteer Trips for 2008

July 19, 2007

Volunteering abroad has become a popular and rewarding form of overseas travel, and starting in March of 2008, Adventures Within Reach will be offering three different volunteer trips.  Two will be in Nepal to support the Free A Child Project, and the other, in Tanzania, will benefit Mt. Kilimanjaro, and the Shalom Orphanage and the Mt. Kilimanjaro Porters Society.

Free A Child is a project dedicated to preventing the exploitation and trafficking of girls and young women in Nepal into global sex trades. Volunteers will take a 3-day trip to visit the Free A Child Project, near the Indian border of Nepal, to learn about the girls support groups, income generating programs, and community awareness campaigns that were started by the Project.  Equipped with this information, the volunteers will return home to educate their own communities about child trafficking and raise funds to help bring the Free A Child Project into self-sufficiency.

The Shalom Orphanage is located near the Highview Hotel in Karatu, Tanzania, between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater.  The orphanage houses 33 children between the ages of one and eight, most who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS.  Volunteers will help with daily chores including laundry, meal preparation, and schoolwork. One-day visits are available but a one week or longer commitment is more beneficial and rewarding.

The Mt. Kilimanjaro Porters Society was organized to support the hard-working porters that serve climbers on Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru. Volunteers are needed to help with advanced first aid classes, personal financial management, English classes, mountain clean up, and other projects.
“Travelers are looking for any chance to give back to the places they are visiting,” Robin Paschall commented. “There is a growing demand for meaningful travel experiences, and Adventures Within Reach is gladly providing those opportunities,” continued Paschall. All three trips will no doubt add meaning and purpose to an already incredible travel experience.
