Press Release: AWR Selected for TunaHAKI Charity Climb

October 7, 2008

Boulder, CO – Adventures Within Reach was selected by the TunaHAKI Canada Foundation to lead their charity climb up Mt. Meru in December 2008.

About TunaHAKI

TunaHAKI is Swahili for "We have a right," and it is a phrase that the street children of Moshi, Tanzania came up with themselves as they set out to find a better life. The TunaHAKI Centre for Child Development is a unique arts-based shelter for orphans and vulnerable children in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. Over the last decade, the centre has rescued more than 100 abandoned, abused or orphaned children from the streets of Moshi, providing them with food, clothing, shelter, education, medical care, and the right to a secure future.

About TunaHAKI Canada

The TunaHAKI Canada Foundation is a non-profit organization acting as the Canadian fundraising partner for the TunaHAKI Centre in Moshi. Through our partnership with the parent TunaHAKI Foundation, the TunaHAKI Canada Foundation is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of Tanzanian children, rescuing them from poverty and hunger, supporting their health and education, encouraging them to become self-reliant and empowering them by providing not just care, but hope.

About the climb

TunaHAKI Canada has a group of eight people climbing Mt. Meru in December to raise money for TunaHAKI. While not as tall as Kilimanjaro, Meru is no easy climb reaching 14,980 feet in 3 days. All of the trekkers will visit the center and four of the group will be volunteering there after the climb.

TunaHAKI Canada held a volleyball tournament in September, which had over 200 participants and raised over $30,000. Donations for the climb are still being accepted.

About Charity Climbs

Adventures Within Reach has supported dozens of charity climbs over the years for a variety of non-profit organizations. Most fundraisers climb Kilimanjaro to raise money for their cause. It is a great way to raise money and awareness while creating lifelong friendships.
