| Free A Child in Nepal |
BOULDER, Co.—Each year between 7,000 and 10,000 Nepalese children between the ages of 8 and 16 are tricked, bought, or kidnapped from their families to work as sex slaves in brothels in India. Thousands more are trafficked into domestic servitude, factory work, and other forced labor. Most of these children come from poor families, have little or no formal education, and live in rural areas. Free A Child programs in Hetauda, Nepal, work to prevent sex trafficking of girls to India. Travelers with Adventures Within Reach can support Free A Child programs on two 2008 tours: March 2 to 14 and October 5 to 17. On this trip, guests will visit some of the villages where the project is working and will see how girls are empowered to support themselves. The field visits in Hetauda include a street drama, visiting the small shops owned by the girls, joining group workshops and meetings, and a hands-on visit to the paper factory to make the paper. The tour also includes sightseeing in Kathmandu, visiting Chitwan National Park and a primitive local village, and a cave in Bundipur. Price is $2840 per person, land only, double occupancy and includes meals, lodging, ground transportation, internal flights, entrance fees, experienced English speaking local guide, and airport transfers. |
| Noble Causes: A Travelers Social Responsibility |
BOULDER, Colorado— From the very beginning, Adventures Within Reach incorporated into their corporate mission and their travel programs, a strong belief that cultural interaction and social responsibility add meaning and authenticity to the travel experience. AWR’s destinations are among the most remote in the world. While foreign tourism to these areas can provide education, jobs, and opportunities for local communities, they believe that both travelers and tour operators have an additional responsibility to address the often overwhelming needs in the countries where they visit and play. As AWR expanded to new destinations, they also expanded their humanitarian mission by creating Charities Within Reach in 2006. Charities Within Reach works with orphanages, local schools, homes for the elderly, and local porters. Charities Within Reach has most recently partnered with the Shalom Orphanage in Karatu, Tanzania and the Free A Child Program in Nepal. |
