This exciting 7-day package starts in Lima, traveling to Cusco, Sacred Valley, by train to Aguas Calientes. The next day starts early, with a shuttle bus to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary. Once at Machu Picchu, you will receive a guided tour of the famous citadel. The itinerary ends with your return to Cusco, then on to Lima or elsewhere. Private tours are also available.

Note that you will have group tours for the Cusco city tour, the Sacred Valley tour and the Machu Picchu tour. Otherwise, you have the freedom to be on your own to explore the cities, villages and ruins. It is the best value, yet gives independence to wander as you wish! Private tours are available upon request.

Day 1: 7-DAY PERU WITH MACHU PICCHU / Arrive Lima; assistance or transfer; overnight Lima

Arrive Lima, welcome and assistance to check in to your Lima airport hotel.

If you arrive Lima early, you may cotinue on to Cusco (for an extra day there), or transfer to your hotel in Lima city. There are optional tours available to visit modern and colonial Lima. There are also many museums and private collections. Overnight in Lima.

Day 2: Fly from Lima to Cusco; transfer to hotel; free afternoon to acclimatize; overnight Cusco (B)

Walk to the airport terminal to board your one hour flight to Cusco, center of the Inca world. Meet and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to acclimatize to the altitude (3,400 meters /11,400 feet). Cusco is the ancient capital of the Inca Empire and is set high in the Andes Mountains. Here Spanish churches and mansions sit alongside Inca remains. Nearly 600 years ago, the Inca nation appeared in Southern Peru, and in a relatively short time, consolidated its power in Cuzco, before expanding north to what are now Ecuador and Colombia and south to present-day Chile. Overnight in Cusco.

If you stayed in Lima city overnight, you will need a transfer or taxi back to the airport.

Day 3: Free morning; afternoon Cusco tour of city and nearby ruins (in a group); overnight Cusco (B))

Free morning to explore on your own. In the afternoon, you will be picked up at your hotel, to participate in the Cusco city and nearby ruins tour (in a group). Start with a visit to Sacsayhuaman, a hilltop fortress that overlooks the city of Cusco. The largest stones used in its construction are nearly 8.5 m (28 ft) high and weigh 360 tons, fitting so perfectly together that a single piece of paper would not fit between two stones. Then you are driven to Q'enko, the temple dedicated to Mother Earth. Before you head back to Cusco, we stop at Puka Pukara (the red fortress) and Tambomachay (the resting place of the Inca). Once in the city visit the Santo Domingo Monastery, the legendary Korikancha (Temple of Gold), the most important Inca temple devoted to worshiping the Sun, whose walls used to be plated with sheets of gold. You continue to the Cathedral at the Plaza de Armas. (The order of visits to sites may vary, to minimize the crowds.) Overnight in Cusco.

Day 4: Full day tour of the Sacred Valley (in a group) with lunch: Pisac & Ollantaytambo village and ruins; overnight Ollantaytambo (B)

Your full day tour of the Sacred Valley starts with pick up at your hotel. This morning you continue towards Pisac, for an immersion into the heart of the Andean culture, famous for its Andean market with its interesting food and artisan stalls. Try your bargaining skills here always keeping in mind handmade artwork is worth it! Enjoy a buffet lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, you visit Ollantaytambo, a still-thriving Inca village set below an ancient Inca fortress and temple with stunning views over the valley that makes you feel as if you have stepped back into the 15th century. Admire the magnificence of this important Inca site as you tour the ruins, and stroll through the quaint streets of the present town. Overnight in Ollantaytambo.

Day 5: Vistadome train to Machu Picchu; free afternoon; overnight Aguas Calientes (B)

Early this morning, transfer to the train station and board the Vistadome train to Machu Picchu. Arrive Aguas Calientes, meet the agent who will help you check in to your hotel. You will have the afternoon free, to wander about the village, visit the out door market, hot springs baths and local museum and gardens. Enjoy a delicious dinner in a nice local restaurant of Aguas Calientes. Overnight in Aguas Calientes.

Day 6: Shuttle, entrance, tour of Machu Picchu (in a group); optional Huayna Picchu (not included) lunch included; afternoon Vistadome Train to Cusco (BL)

Early this morning, you will meet your guide for the shuttle, entrance and a guided tour of Machu Picchu (tour is in a group with local guide). There is an option to climb Huayna Picchu at 7 or 10 a.m. (not included in pricing; you must order this well in advance of your trip!). Lunch on your own. Return to Aguas Calientes for the late afternoon Vistadome train that takes you back to Cusco, transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Cusco.
