We depart due south along the Callejon de Huaylas until we reach Ccatac. We take the road east and drive through the Cordillera Blanca, passing the Querococha Lake and through the Kawish tunnel at 4,550 meters (14,924 ft). Once on the other side, the Callejon de Conchucos comes into view, with many of its Andean villages such as Tambillos and Machaq. Lunch will be at Konchukos Tambo Lodge, a couple hours drive from Huaraz and near Chavin.
We arrive at the village of Huantar and Chavin where we find the temple of the same name. This place holds many mysteries in its interesting carvings and architecture. Recent archeological work has uncovered a labyrinth of tunnels and caves inside the main mound that overlooks the ceremonial plaza. After visiting this site, including the underground passages and a small museum, we will return to Huaraz.
Included: Bi-lingual guide, transportation and driver, entrance fees and lunch.
Not included: Tips for your guide and driver, personal expenses.
[NOTE: There is an option to stay overnight at Konchukos Tambo Lodge, a new hotel in the Chavin vicinity, where you can take side trips to a local farm and local weavers. Please let us know if you would like to adjust your itinerary to make this a 2-day/1 night side trip.]

In the heart of the Huascaran National Park lies the Llanganuco valley, at the foot of Peru’s highest peak, Mt. Huascaran (6,768 m / 22,204 ft). Our day begins with the drive from Huaraz to the starting point of our hike at Quebrada Demanda, where we will have amazing views of the icy peaks of Huandoy, Chacraraju and Pisco. After a picnic lunch we will take a leisurely walk around the edge of one of two big glacial lakes on the valley floor and descend the María José path down to the roadhead, among a beautiful queñua forest, an Andean old-growth tree. Enroute back to Huaraz, we will stop at an ice cream parlor in Charaz.
Included: Bi-lingual guide, transportation and driver, entrance fees and lunch.
Not included: Tips for your guide and driver, personal expenses.

Leaving from Huaraz by vehicle, we take a 20-minute ride to the village of Marian. From here, a two hour hike past fields and farms will bring us to Willcawain--an archaeological site of the Recuay-Wari culture (dating to the 800-400 B.C.). We will visit the complex and have lunch in the vicinity. On the trail, we will observe the snow-capped peaks of Vallunaraju, Ranrapalca, Churup and San Juan that surround Huaraz. We pass fields tended by campesinos with their adobe houses clustered in this patchwork of land. This is a unique day in the outskirts of Huaraz and a good warm-up for trekking in the Cordillera Blanca or Cordillera Huayhuash!
Includes: Bi-lingual guide, transportation and driver, entrance fees and lunch.
Not included: Tips for your guide and driver, personal expenses.
