Overview
We offer the cultural and historical highlights of Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu in this 9-day itinerary! You will be able to see all of the important archaeological sites, museums, churches, and the colorful markets while enjoying the expertise of a bilingual guide and the luxury of 4- and 5-star hotels.
Consider extending your trip with extra days in Cusco, a side trip to Lake Titicaca's floating islands, or the Amazon Rainforest. In Lima, at the beginning or end of your travel, you can enjoy a one-day Nazca Lines overflight, a culinary tour or a visit to an archaeological museum. All experiences will add to your appreciation of the rich Peruvian history and colorful lifestyle today.
This itinerary can be done at any time of the year. The start date must be on a Wednesday, to accommodate special events and tours. Spring and fall months are less busy, if you want fewer crowds at Machu Picchu.
Itinerary
DAY 1: Arrive Lima, welcome and transfer to hotel, city tour of Colonial Lima and the famous Larco Museum, overnight at Miraflores Park (ocean view) in Lima.
DAY 2: Free morning, afternoon visit to and tour of Pachacamac Archaeological Complex, followed by a visit to Hacienda Mamacona for the Peruvian Paso Horse Show, dinner and Andean dance program, return to Cusco, overnight at Miraflores Park (ocean view) in Lima. (BD)
DAY 3: Transfer to Lima airport, morning flight to Cusco, your guide and driver will pick you up and take you for a private tour of the Sacred Valley, visiting Chinchero and Ollantaytambo (ruins and village), end in Yanahuara and overnight at Casa Andina Private Collection in the Sacred Valley. DAY 4: Design your day: free day to choose among optional activities, overnight at Casa Andina Private Collection in the Sacred Valley. (B)
Optional day tours (not included in package):
- Visit the Rumira School and serve breakfast to the students as part of the Living Heart program which works to improve the lives of the Andean children within communities in the Sacred Valley. Tour of mountain villages in the afternoon.
- Maras village and saltmines and Moray agricultural terraces tour (full day with lunch)
- Back to the roots of Andean music experience (1/2 day)
- Textiles and weaving history of the Peruvian culture (1/2 or full day)
- Hiking from Huchuy to Qosqo (full day with lunch)
- Mountain biking from Chinchero to Maras (full day with lunch)
- Inca Outdoor Cuisine (full day with lunch)
DAY 5: Transfer to train station, take the Vistadome train to Machu Picchu, private guided tour of Machu Picchu, lunch at Sanctuary Lodge, afternoon hiking at Machu Picchu (climb Wayna Picchu or hike to Intipunku), shuttle to Aguas Calientes for dinner and overnight at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel in Aguas Calientes. DAY 6: Second shuttle and entrance to Machu Picchu for hiking and exploring, early afternoon shuttle bus to Aguas Calientes for visits to the hot springs baths or local craft market; afternoon return to Cusco by Vistdome train, transfer to hotel, overnight at Hotel Monasterio in Cusco. (B)
DAY 7: Morning private walking tour of Cusco churches and historic sites in the vicinity of the Plaza de Armes, lunch on your own, afternoon private tour of Sacsayhuaman and other ruins in the Cusco vicinity, evening Peruvian folklorica dance program, overnight at Hotel Monasterio in Cusco. (B)
DAY 8: Transfer to airport for early morning flight to Lima, assistance at airport, depart Lima. (B)
