This package begins every Wednesday of the year. We can arrange for extra nights at the hotel in Moshi before and after your package as well as trips to Zanzibar.
DAY 1: Arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and be transferred to Moshi for overnight bed and breakfast.
DAY 2: Machame Gate (1500m) to Machame Camp (3000m), distance is about 18 km (BLD)
It is approximately 45 minutes drive from Moshi to Machame gate. All your equipment and supplies are carried by porters; a cook will prepare all your meals. After all formalities have been taken care at the gate, head into the forest and begin the 7 hour ascent to the first camp on the mountain, Machame camp (3000m)
DAY 3: Machame Camp (3000) to Shira Camp (3840), distance is about 9 km (BLD)
Breakfast is served early in the mess tent and, weather permitting; you could take in your first view of the Western Breach of Kilimanjaro. The lunch stop will be reached at about 3600m and after this short lunch and rest, you will continue up the rocky ridge to the next camp on the mountain, Shira camp (3840).
DAY 4: Shira Camp (3840) to Barranco Camp (3950), distance is about 15 km (BLD)
The route now turns east into a semi-desert and rocky environment where you reach an altitude of 4600m after a 5 hours walk to Lava Tower. As you ascend from the Shira camp (3950m), there are good views of the Shira Plateau to the west, Oehler Ridge to the northeast and the Western Breach to the east. This day you will climb high and steep low.
DAY 5: Barranco Camp (3950m) to Barafu Camp (4600m), distance is about 13 km (BLD)
The morning starts with a scramble up the almost vertical Barranco Wall to an altitude of about 4200m. After approximately 3 hours, the path crosses through the southern slopes to reach the Karanga Valley. After lunch, you continue in a southeasterly direction to the junction before turning north to reach Barafu camp (4600m) after about 4 hours. Here you take a long rest and prepare for the midnight ascent to the summit.
DAY 6: Barafu Camp (4600m) to Uhuru Peak (5895m), distance is about 7 km (BLD)
At around midnight, you will head in a northwesterly direction up the southeast valley towards Stella Point on the crater rim. The 6 hour long walk to Stella Point is a mental and physical challenge with the steep face just below Stella posing the ultimate challenge. If you are able, continue to the summit of Uruhu Peak. The walk back to Mweka Camp from the summit can take over 7 hours.
DAY 7: Mweka Camp (3100m) to Mweka Gate (2000m), distance is about 15 km (BLD)
You will camp for the night at Mweka camp (3100m) before departing for the Mweka Parks Gate the next morning where your driver will pick up and take you back to your hotel in Moshi for overnight. (BL)
DAY 8: The drive from Moshi to Manyara National Park, can take approximately 4 hours. After a picnic lunch, you spend the late afternoon with a game drive, which is also the best time to view animals in this park. When you approach it from the east, the Rift Valley escarpment looms on the horizon forming an impressive backdrop to the lake. In the tall trees, forest monkeys leap from branch to branch, and on the escarpment, elephants stand in the shade of acacia. Other animals frequently seen are leopards, zebras, impalas, monkeys, giraffes, buffalos, hippos and others. Overnight at the Karatu basic camp or Wildlife Lodges. (BLD)
DAY 9: After breakfast, enjoy a half-day game drive in Ngorongoro Crater. This is undoubtedly the best place to see black rhino in Tanzania as well as the prides of lion that include the magnificent black maned males. There are colorful flamingoes and a variety of water birds. Other game such as leopard, cheetah, hyena and lots of other members of the antelope family and small mammals of sorts can also be seen. In the early evening, return to Karatu campsite or Wildlife Lodges for dinner and overnights. (BLD)
DAY 10: Morning hike in Ngorongoro Conservation Area, afternoon hike to local waterfalls and visit Shalom Orphanage. In the afternoon, return back to Karatu camp or Wildlife Lodges for for dinner and overnight.
DAY 11: Drive to Tarangire National Park for morning game drive. This park is spectacular in the dry season when many of the migratory wildlife species come back to the permanent waters of Tarangire River. Huge herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, elands and oryx gather to stay in Tarangire until the onset of the rain when they migrate again to good grazing areas. In the late evening, drive to the airport to catch the flight back home (Kilimanjaro Airport).
