This package begins every Friday of the year. We can arrange for extra nights at the hotel in Moshi before and after your package as well as trips to Zanzibar.
DAY 1: Arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to the Keys Hotel/Alternative Hotel for overnight bed and breakfast.
DAY 2: Marangu Gate (6000ft) - Mandara Hut (9000ft) (BLD)
Leave Moshi town after breakfast and drive about 45 minutes to Marangu Gate. All your equipment and supplies are carried by porters; a cook will prepare all your meals. After all formalities have been taken care at the gate, hike through the rainforest from the park gate (6000 ft) to Mandara Hut (9000 ft). The hike takes about 4 hours, and you will stop along the way for lunch. A side trip to Maundi Crater (about 15 minutes away from the huts) is a good way to see the surroundings, as well as views of Kenya and Northern Tanzania. Bathrooms are available with running water.
DAY 3: Mandara Hut (9000 ft) - Horombo Hut (12000 ft) (BLD)
Wake to breakfast, and pack for the day of hiking to Horombo Huts (12,000 ft). This leg should take 5 to 6 hours. You travel through lower heath land with small shrubs being the main vegetation. Views of Mawenzi are amazing. The summit of Kibo can be seen from Horombo Huts. Bathrooms are available with running water.
DAY 4: Horombo Hut (12000 ft) - Kibo Huts (15500 ft) (BLD)
Wake to breakfast, pack, and begin the hike to Kibo Huts (15,500 ft). The first half of the day's hike traverses the upper heath land while the second half crosses the vast saddle that connects Mawenzi and Kibo. The saddle is an alpine desert that resembles a lunar landscape. The day's hike should take 6 to 7 hours, stopping half way for lunch. There is no running water at Kibo Huts.
DAY 5: Summit Day (19340 ft) (BLD)
Wake at around midnight to a light breakfast, and then prepare for the summit ascent. This part of the hike is carried out during the early morning before dawn so that the climbers reach Gillman's Point or Uhuru Peak at sunrise. The climbers are met with views of the crater from Gilman's Point. Another 2 hours of hiking brings the climber to Uhuru Peak (19,340 ft). From there, you will descend back to Kibo Huts, collect your things and cross the saddle again at Horombo Huts where you will spend the night. Eat dinner and get some well-deserved sleep.
DAY 6: Descending from Horombo to the Marangu Gate (BL)
Wake to breakfast, pack, and descend to Mandara Huts. Take lunch there and continue on to the park gate where you will be met by your transport back to the Keys Hotel/Alternative Hotel.
DAY 7: The drive from Moshi to Manyara National Park, can take approximately 4 hours. After a picnic lunch, you spend the late afternoon with a game drive, which is also the best time to view animals in this park. When you approach it from the east, the Rift Valley escarpment looms on the horizon forming an impressive backdrop to the lake. In the tall trees, forest monkeys leap from branch to branch, and on the escarpment, elephants stand in the shade of acacia. Other animals frequently seen are leopards, zebras, impalas, monkeys, giraffes, buffalos, hippos and others. Overnight at the Twiga basic camp or Wildlife Lodges. (BLD)
DAY 8: Drive to Serengeti National Park via Olduvai Gorge. Olduvai George is an archaeological site, in which some of the earliest human fossils were discovered. It has amazing landscape that resulted from tectonic forces which created the Great Rift Valley million of years ago. Then, drive to Serengeti for afternoon game drive and overnight at the Wildlife Lodges or Tented Camp. (BLD)
DAY 9: After breakfast, venture into the corners of wilderness Serengeti for a full day game viewing in the park. With a picnic lunch, take your leisure while exploring this world heritage site, where the largest concentration of plains game animals on earth still exists! In the early evening, head back for dinner and overnight at Wildlife Lodges or Tented Camp. (BLD)
DAY 10: After a morning game drive in the Serengeti, the afternoon is driving to Ngorongoro then to Simba campsite or Wildlife Lodges for dinner and overnight. (BLD)
DAY 11: After breakfast, enjoy a half-day game drive in Ngorongoro Crater. This is undoubtedly the best place to see black rhino in Tanzania as well as the prides of lion that include the magnificent black maned males. There are colorful flamingoes and a variety of water birds. Other game such as leopard, cheetah, hyena and lots of other members of the antelope family and small mammals of sorts can also be seen. In the afternoon, drive to the airport to catch the flight back home (Kilimanjaro Airport). (BL)
